There are 2 routes – the Sukhumvit Line & the Silom Line – which cover much of the city centre. Trains run daily between 6.00 am and 12.00 midnight with frequent services in the day and an increase in frequency during rush hour.

  • Metered air-con taxis are available around-the-clock. The flag fall is THB 35 (for the first 2kms) and the fare climbs in THB 2 increments. Tipping is not required but rounding up is common. For trips to/from the airport, expressway toll fees will be borne by the passenger.

    Word of caution: Check with the driver that he intends on using the metre before getting in, and ensure that it is turned on once seated.
  • Bangkok Tuk-Tuks
  • Locally known as ‘samlor’ or otherwise your three-wheeled taxis. Bargain before hopping on board and beware offers at unbelievably low prices, it is a set up to lure you to overpriced souvenir or jewellery shops. The approximate cost for a short 10-minute ride is around THB 40 - 100.
  • Bangkok Buses
  • An expensive and inexpensive public bus service with prices ranging from THB 8 to THB 30 depending on the type of bus. However, as destinations are given only in Thai, it is best that you get a bus route map (available at most hotels, TAT offices, and bookshops).


For dining and entertainment, or shopping and a little self-indulgence, Sukhumvit Soi 23 and its surroundings are more than able to meet these needs. There are also many local eateries, pharmacies, optical shops, local grocery shops, and more that are not included in the list below. However, many of these shops are within walking distance.

    The Robinson Department Store is a Thai department store chain established in 1979. It has recently merged with Central Group in 1995 and is now positioned as a mid-market retailer. The Sukhumvit branch of Robinson offers department store shopping, supermarket shopping, an MK restaurant, and also a McDonald’s.

    Terminal 21
    A new shopping mall in the Asok area, the Terminal 21 shopping centre is linked directly to the Asok BTS station and offers both an array of imported street brands, local boutiques, restaurants, dessert shops, and coffee shops. They also have a cinema on the top floor and is a very popular venue among the local youth due to its innovative design, using a different national theme on each floor.

    RSU Tower
    The RSU Tower mostly consists of healthcare centres such as the RSU Medical Centre, RSU Eye Medical Centre, RSU Dental, and the RSU Vision Centre. There are also several eateries such as Au Bon Pain, the Duc de Praslin Belgium Chocolaterie, Tidbit Terrace Chinese Restaurant, and S&P. You will also find a Boots Pharmacy, a couple of hairdressers, and beauty centres.

    A great little supermarket that offers a good selection of both imported and local products, ranging from food to essential household items.
